After months of planning and anticipation the day for our departure has arrived. An early start was required, with a 6:25am departure from Canberra heading to Brisbane. We had a two hour stop over in Brisbane at the Qantas club before boarding the nine hour flight to Narita.
The boys did a great job on the flight – although we had some slight panic as the entertainment system was glitching to begin with. But that was soon sorted and all was calm as we worked our way through watching three or four movies each. And the Japanese food began with noodles.
Arriving in Narita it was slow going. First quite slow through immigration, a long wait to exchange order to get our Japan Rail Pass, and finally a 40 minute wait for the next Narita Express into Tokyo station. As our patience was starting to run out the Japanese vending machines came to the rescue. With green melon pop – or is it lime? – coming to the rescue getting our energy levels back up again.
We had a tiny glimpse of Tokyo on the five minute Taxi ride from Tokyo station to the hotel. And we’re glad to see the comfy beds at the hotel. Our 19 hours of travel coming to an end right on midnight.
